Studio B2JS completed a new office design for advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky located in Santa Monica, California.
Crispin Porter + Bogusky describe themselves as “a full-service, fully-integrated advertising agency filled with full-time, late-working, on-timing, below-budgeting, overnight-FedExing, hard-charging, clutch-saving, coffee-chugging, pop-culture changing, marketing fanatics.” With the support of the developer for the property, Kilroy Realty, Howard Building Corporation was selected through a hard bid process to be the general contractor for the construction of the firm’s unique space.
The 35,000 square foot creative office space is housed on two floors and features an interconnecting staircase and atrium in the center of the space. The atrium is surrounded by a circuit of offices upstairs and bar seating arrangements along the edge of the upstairs atrium railings. A common area, kitchen, and more offices radiate out from the first floor atrium area.
Unique to this project are the finishes and construction solutions incorporated into the design. For example, a majority of the walls around private offices, conference rooms and small break out rooms are constructed of metal studs faced with transparent, orange, and blue polycarbonate panels. This requires all the electrical wiring that runs through the partitions to be immaculately installed. Beetle-Kill pine veneer and repurposed cedar fence planks are used to wrap columns, for millwork, as treads and landings on the stairs, and as feature walls around the atrium.
Ceilings throughout the space are left exposed and structures sit like jewel boxes inside the expansiveness of the space, often covered by corrugated sheet metal and contained by metal framed glass sliding doors. Stainless steel countertops and millwork echo the metal ceilings. Meeting spaces include fabric-wrapped wall panels and dry erase wall covering. Polished concrete floors extend throughout common areas and carpet tiles are installed in offices and meeting rooms. An exercise room is finished with DuraFLEX fitness flooring and floor to ceiling mirrors.
